Challenge:
Highways England is introducing an Integrated Asset Management Information System (IAM IS) in conjunction with a broader set of asset management maturity improvements.
The IAM IS will replace disparate asset data systems and require large-scale data management, process and organisational change. The end result will be more accessible data for decision-making.
Communications about these changes needed to be effectively delivered to the many stakeholders affected by the IAM IS.
Solution:
Using knowledge of the Highways England business and good-practice data management, eAM provided support to identify IAM IS stakeholders, and evaluate their interest in IAM IS.
A communications strategy and plan were produced to support IAM IS implementation at all levels of the Highways England business.
eAM also provided support on contract and policy development relating to asset data management in IAM IS, and its implementation in the business and its supply chain.
Results:
The dispersed IAM IS project team have clear communication lines and messages to use in their work. Project decisions are clearly communicated.
There is a structured approach to managing external stakeholders and communications to a large audience.
The future IAM IS user-base will have information about the system and how it will affect their work.
Decisions about data management and collection are taken using a long-term, strategic approach as well as tactical expediency.
